KICKIN' IT FOR KIDS Charity Kickball Fundraiser

09/20/2014

On Saturday, September 20, 2014, 8 Kickball Teams battled it out in the First Annual REACH-A-Child (REACH) charity kickball fundraiser, with major underwriting support from MassMutual Wisconsin. Teams played on fields at Warner Park in Madison, Wisconsin.

The double elimination tournament gave each team a chance to play on the Mallard’s Stadium field. This fun day included food and drink, a raffle and silent auction, and a children’s playground – complete with inflatables. Topping off the fun was a special appearance by the Milwaukee Brewer Sausage Racing Team – all to help raise funds for REACH.

REACH-A-Child’s mission is to assist First Responders as they encounter children in crisis in the course of their work – and the “first response is a book for a child-in-crisis!” Founded in 2007, REACH has been helping First Responders all over the state by providing them with REACH BAGs filled with 10 books and 10 children’s drawstring backpacks. The First Responders use the books, which they give to the children to keep, as a means to redirect the child’s attention from the crisis at hand and to help them cope with the chaos around them.

As Madison Police Chief Mike Koval wrote,
“I want to thank the REACH-A-Child organization for your continued support. The backpacks and books available to children we encounter as first responders goes a long way to creating space from turmoil and fostering an opportunity for hope and help. With books, our officers can begin to build rapport and trust and kids can start to feel better about themselves and their situation.”

By supporting REACH-A-Child, MassMututal Wisconsin supports First Responders and the children they serve!
